Historic Estate Gardens Restoration

Restoration of a historic estate in Wiltshire

A landscaping project in Wiltshire – restoration of a historic estate

We are delighted to be leading the restoration and maintenance of The Hall Estate in Bradford on Avon. The estate, built in the 16th Century, is well-known as the home of the Moulton family, and most recently Alex Moulton, a world-famous design engineer. More information can be found at:

The grounds encompass a large section of land along the banks of the River Avon, and include sections of forest, a quarry, expansive lawns and well-manicured topiary.
They are particularly famous for the range of specimen trees, including a large number of Giant Sequoia trees and a very rare example of a fern-leaved Beech.

During 2020 we managed a team of highly dedicated volunteers to clear large sections of growth, particularly around the old quarry, and construct new planting terraces. Thousands of new plants, including 2000 spring bulbs, were planted in the Autumn.

In addition to restoration work, as part of our bespoke gardening services, we manage the maintenance of the grounds and the technical hedge pruning – including the care of magnificent 200-year-old Irish Yew trees.
